WATCH OUT FOR POISON IVY!

As beautiful as Mouth Park is, there are some plant dangers to be wary of: there is POISON IVY next to the entrance of the quad trail at the northwest edge of the parking lot, as well as along the transition between grass and forest along the western edge of the park.

Remember, LEAVES OF THREE, LET THEM BE!

"Poison ivy grows as vines or low shrubs in most climates. Each leaf on a poison ivy plant has three smaller leaflets. Touching any part of the poison ivy plant can cause red, swollen skin, blisters and severe itching, sometimes within hours after exposure.

A poison ivy rash usually resolves on its own within a few weeks. In the meantime, soothe irritated skin with an over-the-counter topical treatment, such as calamine lotion. Oatmeal baths and cool compresses also might help. Talk to your doctor if you have a severe poison ivy rash or if the rash involves your face or genital area." -mayoclinic.org

A Massey business has stepped up to the plate to assist a local volunteer group looking at beautifying the Mouth Park in Massey.

Group founder Jayson Stewart says the Friends of the Mouth is a community-driven volunteer organization, which is in the process of setting up memberships, beautification initiatives, even ways for the public to help build on the local attraction.

Stewart says the owners of the Massey Motel have donated the entire cost to pay for the Friends of the Mouth official website, but more sponsors will be needed to build on that initial success.

The website is now up and running he adds, and anyone wanting to volunteer or provide financial support, are invited to take a look.

Stewart adds they will also be seeking the township’s endorsement in working hand-in-hand to enhance the park’s amenities.

Contact Stewart at call (705) 869-8221 or email friendsofmouthpark@gmail.com. The website can be found at: www.mouthpark.com
