A community group commmitted to protecting and celebrating Massey's Natural Gem.

WHO ARE THE FRIENDS OF MOUTH PARK?

The Friends of Mouth Park is a non-profit community group, run by volunteers, that works with the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers and its Parks and Recreation Committee, local businesses, charities, provincial and federal government, and families to maintain, beautify, celebrate, and promote the history and future of Mouth Park in Massey, Ontario.

Where is Mouth Park?

BEAUTIFICATION OF THE MOUTH
The Mouth is a beautiful gem in the crown that is Massey but it
needs a little polishing.  The Friends of the Mouth would work with the municipality and volunteers to clean up the Park, improve the landscaping, create gardens, and make it more accessible for all.

Possible projects could include the installation of maps of the area, historic plaques, nature signs, flower gardens, a gazebo, change rooms, improved accessibility and parking, public chessboards and other games, and a replacement of the old wire fence with something more functional and attractive.

EDUCATION AT THE MOUTH
The Mouth has a long rich history and modern importance to the Anishinaabe people and to settlers to the area, being a transportation route, a spot once integral to the lumber industry, to modern tourism, and a place where generations have gathered as a community.

Along with the fascinating history are also lessons hard learned such as the 1983 toxic sewage spill at the Espanola Pulp and Paper Mill owned by EB Eddy, which destroyed the eco-system of the Spanish River from Webbwood Falls at the mill down river to the North Channel of Lake Huron.

The Friends of the Mouth can work with local schools, Science North, ecological groups, Indigenous educators, and other groups to run educational programming in this beautiful outdoor classroom!

I HAVE AN IDEA TO SHARE!

EVENTS AT THE MOUTH
The Mouth is a beautiful place to run special events and the Friends of Mouth Park will be working hard to bring you special activities, workshops, lessons, concerts, and other fun things to do.

Imagine having a full calendar of events like plein air painting lessons, outdoor movie nights, historical talks, wildlife studies, sandcastle contests, BBQs, water sport competitions, and more.

Beyond public events, the Mouth is also a beautiful place for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and other events and we can work to make those uses of Mouth Park a reality!

I HAVE EVENT IDEAS!

COMMUNITY WATCH
It is an unfortunate truth that vandalism has occurred at the Mouth in the past and the Friends of the Mouth would hate to see all our hard work be wrecked for a few laughs. We will be working with local volunteers and the Ontario Provincial Police to establish a Community/Neighbourhood Watch Program to ensure the Mouth is safe and secure.

I WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER
